Naked Amphibians is a darkly comic, chaotic exploration of ambition, desire, and artistic obsession. When a struggling actor, Arkis, decides to stage Aristophanes’ The Frogs at a small Sydney theatre, he assembles a volatile ensemble: wounded adults grappling with failure, exile, and hidden desires, alongside a group of hyper-online twenty-somethings learning what it means to be citizens, not just content creators.
As rehearsals unfold, personal dramas erupt. Affairs, betrayals, and ego clashes blur with the play itself, turning the rehearsal room into a crucible where art, identity, and reality collide. The frog chorus becomes a metaphor for social media noise and the drowning of meaningful dialogue, while each character confronts their own obsession, longing, and irrelevance.
By opening night, chaos erupts into a fevered, surreal climax—where ambition, madness, and the hunger to matter collide, leaving every performer teetering on the edge of transformation or collapse.
